Overview
We have been privileged to be instructed by FTSE 100 firms, oil majors in Europe and the Far East, as well as household names in the construction, telecommunications auto manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food manufacturers, defence and security industries, shipping and transportation as well as by Government departments and major international law firms.
QC has, inter alia, been involved in a considerable number of litigation cases especially in Baghdad, Basrah and Nasiriyah before various courts including civil courts, commercial courts, criminal courts, integrity courts, investigating magistrates and labour courts. We have also been engaged by the UK Government Ministry of Defence on several major public enquiries into certain Iraqi fatalities allegedly involving the British Army (see website http://www.iraq-judicial-investigations.org).
On the non contentious side, we have given numerous advices on Iraqi law (predominantly in Federal Iraq but occasionally in Kurdistan) on a great number of issues including oil and gas matters, ownership of oil under constitutional law, employment law, commercial ventures, leases, agencies & distributorship, corporate set ups, issues under civil law and civil procedures code, criminal law and criminal procedures code, insurance, real estate matters, trade and service contracts. Zainab Al Qurnawi is the provider of legal services operating in Iraq through Qurnawi Legal Consultancy and Advocates (القرناوي للأستشارات القانونية والمحاماة) being an Iraqi law practice started in Iraq in 2014, known as “QC Law”.
QC Law has a sister company called Qurnawi Legal Consultancy FZC, which is registered in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE under License No. 6003799 and, if needed, reserves the right to draw on the services of this sister company which is owned 100% by Zainab.
QC Law aims to be the pre-eminent one stop legal services in Iraq for all commercial matters whether contentious or non-contentious. We are unique in that we have experience and understanding of both the Iraqi civil law system and the Western common law principles, thus being able to relate to both.

Zainab Al Qurnawi
Dual-qualified in Iraq and England & Wales, she brings expertise across civil and common law systems. With experience at Clyde & Co and Shell, she focuses on Iraq-related corporate and energy matters and currently represents Iraq at the ICC Court of Arbitration in Paris.
Paul Turner
A commercial legal expert with over 40 years of experience, including senior roles at top firms in London and the Middle East. He focuses on international arbitration and litigation, and has represented states and major global companies in complex legal disputes worldwide.
Omar A. Jaleel
With deep expertise in Iraqi civil, commercial, corporate, criminal, and regulatory law, he advises across a range of legal areas. His background includes both private practice and in-house counsel roles, supporting clients in navigating complex legal frameworks.
